Building Skills to Keep America Moving.

National Framework for Apprenticeship

Faced with an industry-wide skills shortage, local leaders in public transportation increasingly turn to apprenticeship programs to address their training needs.

Apprenticeship programs are equally beneficial for employers and their workers. The programs provide employers with a steady supply of skilled labor, improved labor relations, and demonstrated return on investment. For workers, apprenticeships provide enhanced job security, an opportunity to upgrade or learn new skills, and a career ladder for advancement within the organization.

With funding and technical assistance from the U.S. Department of Labor and Department of Transportation, the Center is working with local and national leaders to develop an industry-wide system of apprenticeship in transit.
