Center Executive Director Lead Presenter on the Workforce Development Panel - APTA’s Rail Conference

On Tuesday June 23, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Center Executive Director Jack Clark led the presentation by the Workforce Development panel at the APTA Rail Conference.  Jack presented data on the overall challenge the industry faces in recruiting and training 126 percent of the current workforce over the next ten years and proposed a national structure of comprehensive training and apprenticeship to address the need.  The panel also included presentations from Metro North, WMATA, LACMTA and EDSI.

Up skill the Frontline Workforce: Small and Rural Transit Shares Insights at CTAA Expo Workshop

Small, rural and tribal agencies face unique challenges recruiting, retaining and cultivating the skills of their frontline operations and maintenance workforce. According to participants to the June 3 workshop at the CTAA Expo in Tampa, FL, the paramount frontline workforce challenge most small properties face is the lack of qualified candidates for bus and van operators and the high turnover rate, largely attributable to the low wages.
