Attending APTA’s Annual Meeting?

Posted September 2013

On Tuesday October 1, 2013 from 10:30am -12pm the Center’s Executive Director, Brian Turner, will join other industry leaders on a panel about creating dynamic & innovative training & development initiatives for transit’s future workforce.

Under MAP-21, the Federal Transit Administration awarded $7M in grants for innovative workforce development projects, with an emphasis on promoting training opportunities in emerging technologies and encouraging young people to pursue careers in public transportation. Several projects address the current and projected workforce shortages in technical areas, including front-line and blue collar occupations. This session will highlight examples of innovative projects, including a consortium for rail signals training courseware development; building a transit virtual career network to build awareness of the diverse career opportunities in the industry; hybrid technology maintenance education programs; and initiatives providing military veterans and high school students with skills training and assistance to help them make the transition into an agency’s bus maintenance apprenticeship program.
