The Center is excited to announce Amalgamated Transit Union International President, John Costa, has been elected to Chair its board of directors. Costa was elected International President of the Amalgamated Transit Union, September 26, 2019, at ATU’s 59th International Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Costa had been elected as International President by the ATU General Executive Board in May 2019 after the untimely and tragic death of ATU International President Larry Hanley, which also left the Center’s Board Chair position vacant.
The Center and ATU have enjoyed a long and productive partnership, working together to improve safety and front-line training at transit properties on a joint labor-management basis. During ATU’s September Las Vegas convention, the International adopted several resolutions specifically naming the Transportation Learning Center as a partner to work on registered apprenticeship for front-line transit occupations, including for bus operators, and working to develop frontline training on electric buses, bus maintenance, and innovative rail maintenance training programs. The Center looks forward to continuing its strong relationship with ATU International and enthusiastically welcomes President Costa to the Board of Directors.
