Center Developing Equipment Specific Escalator Inspection and Maintenance Course for BART
Posted November 2013
George Younger and Mike Rodriguez of BART work with Julie Deibel, Program Manager of Instructional Design at the Center on Content for a BART specific course on escalator inspection and maintenance.
This week, Transportation Learning Center Instructional Designers are meeting with transit elevator subject matter experts at BART to develop an inspection and maintenance course for the escalators specific to their authority. This work builds upon the work that was done by the Transit Elevator/Escalator Training Consortium - especially Course 212: Transit Escalator Inspection and Basic Maintenance by incorporating detailed instruction on the exact parameters and procedures for equipment found at BART.
When completed, this course will first be administered to incumbent workers who have years of experience in the field but need a refresher on the details of inspection and maintenance work. In the future, Course 300B: BART Specific Inspection and Maintenance of Escalators will be part of an apprenticeship program where the 200-level transit escalator courses will lay the ground work for teaching BART specific equipment and the associated preventive maintenance.
