Signals Training Consortium Steering Committee Works w/Center to Prepare for Project Kick-off
Posted May 2013
Last Friday, Center staff met with Signals Training Consortium Co-chairs Jim Lindsay President of ATU Local 1277 in Los Angeles and Michael Monastero former Chief Engineering Officer of the Communications & Signals Department at SEPTA to prepare for the consortium’s kick-off meeting in Silver Spring, MD at the end of the month. Members of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman and TWU Local 234 also joined the meeting.
Besides solidifying a work plan and schedule of courseware deliverables there was also a considerable discussion on how to most efficiently engage all of the properties that are committed to this project, which will create a cohesive, standardized set of courseware based on the industry recognized training standards. The process will include collection of existing courseware and extension of this courseware by Center instructional designers working with subject matter experts to create materials where there are holes.
Benefits for participating locations include:
* Decreased liability by participating in a nationally recognized,
standardized training program
* Ability to in-source signals training
* Expand training capacity to account for new hires that will be
filling the void soon to be left by impending retirements
* Diminish the costs of creating such a system by spreading the cost
amongst 20 or more participating locations
